…and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
In the spirit of the scriptures, Indian Hills Christian School (IHCS) seeks to partner with parents to “train up” students in the way they should go, preparing them for active and successful lives in a world of ever-increasing complexity. Centrally located in New Philadelphia, IHCS is a non-denominational, state chartered school that has been serving the Tuscarawas Valley for nearly 40 years.
So what makes us so special? Steve Schneiter, entering his third year as Principal of the school, says: “With a Biblical foundation, we utilize a reliable and stable approach that is applied across all grade levels that contributes to character building as well as laying the groundwork for an excellent education.” This stable foundation produces results. Our students consistently score 20-25 points above the national average on standardized achievement tests and compete favorably in academic competitions, and they are active in regular field trips, service projects and musicals. Last October, our middle school visited the world famous Cleveland Museum of Art.
Our success would not be possible without a dedicated, loving teaching staff. From a phonics-based reading program through a challenging math and science program, our teachers are committed to teaching beyond standardized tests. Students not only engage in traditional subjects, they engage in regular Bible study and weekly chapel services coupled with the kind of individual attention characteristic of a Christian-based, private school. Our students are loved as much as they are educated.
Beyond teaching and academics, our parents are included in the program in ways that are unique to Christian Education. As part of the school family, parents have opportunities to help in the classroom, on field trips, in the library, and with many other aspects of the program. Parents are viewed as partners in the process of educating students, not problems. There are times, however, when parents don’t have time to be as intimately involved as they may like. In times like these, support is provide to parents through before and after school care programs that run from 7:00am to 5:30pm each school day.
So what makes us so different? The difference begins and ends with a Christ-centered approach to education that builds personal character, academic excellence, and interpersonal skills based on the Christian values of love, service, and discipline. If this is the kind of education you want for your child, contact us at 330-339-1041. We would be honored to be partners with you in “training up your child” in ways that are lasting and eternal.
