More about the Reeves Bell Choir: The Handbell program of First Moravian Church of Dover began in 1977 with the acquisition of a 4 octave set of Schulmerich Handbells provided through the generosity of the Reeves Foundation. The Reeves family has maintained a long relationship with the congregation through the membership of Mrs. Jeremiah Reeves. The family has demonstrated ongoing support of the music program since the early 1900’s through the present. Due to their funding of the Handbells, a decision was made to name the choir in their honor. The first Reeves Choir was a group of youth beginning their first ringing experience with Handbells. In subsequent years, the choir was enlarged to include a 5th octave of bells and became a group of invited adult ringers. A second choir was created for youth ringers called the Wolle Bell Choir, named for an early Moravian Bishop who had served the congregation. Today the Reeves Bell Choir consists of invited ringers from the congregation or those who have been associated with the Moravian congregation. This devoted group is committed to playing high quality sacred literature with sensitivity and the use of the many different Handbell techniques related to the instrument.
The group members are (listed in their playing order from high bells to low): Donna Keller, Jan Shanklin, Nancy Gibbs, Susan Paden, SueEllen Hoffman, Kelly Hayman (IHCS – Pre-K Teacher), Rebecca Kutscher, Kristin Macaulay, Susan Henriksen, Rebekah Hayman (IHCS – Alumni), and David Hayman (IHCS – Director of Development). The Reeves Bell Choir is under the direction of G. Randall Gibbs, Director of Music for the First Moravian Church of Dover.
